As for your praise of Slayers, I wouldn't go that far (and that's an unreasonable comparison anyway, just because they're comedies with action scenes does not make them anything more than superficially similar), I can muchly second the Dn'D riffs being awesome. Watching Slayers, a series I never spent the time watching even though I should have. Fucking brillant, I feel like an idiot for avoiding such an old yet great series for so long.
I'm guessing you think Lina is a cunt due to her being very like Ranma, but she is one of my favorite characters , the other being that lovely swordsman, Gourry.
